[Short Text] Error Types

  • When the source sentence includes one or more errors, mark as one of the five error types below accordingly: "Misspelling", “Nonsensical”, “Not in the expected language”, “Garbled” and “More than 1 language”. There is no need to distinguish the options for errors strictly. Just select one error type per a source string which looks most appropriate.
  • "Misspelling"
    • Translations for source sentences that sufficiently convey meaning but have minor grammatical/spelling errors must nonetheless be provided.
    • The source sentences are likely to have misspellings and abbreviations. Leave the source text as is but try to fix any misspellings and disambiguate abbreviations in the translations.
      • (FR) ça va → how r u
      • (ES) perrrito → puppy
    • Errors in word spacing
      • (EN) Iloveyou / (ES) Tequiero
    • Capitalization errors
      • (EN) i loVe my ParentS / (FR) j’aiMe mes Parents
    • Omission of punctuation mark
      • (EN) Have you ever been to Korea / (KO) 한국에 가본 적 있습니까
    • Typos or spelling errors
      • (EN) i wenp to thee shop / (KO) 나는 그 가개에 갓어 / (ES) Fui a esa tiendo.
  • “Nonsensical”
    • If the meaning of the source sentence is not clear, like "finger of fish love", please try to provide a word-for-word translation and mark it under error type "Nonsensical".

    • This error type is differentiated from “Garbled” because the “nonsensical” sentences are nonetheless translatable in a word-by-word approach but the “garbled” sentences are not readable as well as nonsense.
  • “More than 1 language”
    • If any other language is present other than the expected language in the source sentence, mark “More than 1 language” and translate as much as possible. Leave the the words in the unexpected language in the translation.

    • Standard code-switching

    • Multiple languages mixed together (with or without the same meaning)

    • Borrowed words from other languages, or words using other scripts
      • t has a classical front façade but is pretty from any angle

    • However, if there are no words from the source language but just more than two languages, mark “Not in the expected language” and then skip the sentence.
      • (JA) Over the world, it’s been a legend, 凤仙花的传说 (English/Chinese sentences in the Japanse to English Translation) → Not in the expected language
  • “Not in the expected language”
    • If the source sentence is written in a language other than the source language, do not translate and mark “Not in the expected language”.
      • Si seulement on pouvait voir la tête qu'il fait ! (FR text in EN>DE task) → Not in the expected language
  • “Garbled”
    • If the source sentence is comprised of random numbers or characters without any meaning, do not translate and mark “Garbled”. This error types means that it is completely impossible to interpret and read the source sentence.
      • WWW Hkaor peong doid;w → Garbled
    • However, if only a part of the source sentence is not readable and the rest is understandable, mark it as “Nonsensical” and translate it as much as possible.
      • (EN) geawqsdsd how are U asrer? → (FR) geawqsdsd tu va bien asrer?
  • “No error”
    • If the source sentence does not correspond to the previous five error types, please mark it in this check box and proceed with the translation.
